Conference focus in 2022
Colombia Forum invited to the ninth conference “Together for Peace in Colombia”.

Since 2012, this conference has become the central space in Norway for analysis and dialogue about the Colombian peace process, and for engagement of the Norwegian State and civil society in the peacebuilding process.

At this year’s conference, we aimed to create a space for discussion and dialogue about the role of business and investments in implementing and consolidating socio-environmental peace. Businesses generate resources that facilitate the establishment of sustainable and stable peace when they create employment and economic development.

There is, however, a complex relationship between business and peace. It has been proven that certain business activities in Colombia have indirectly or directly contributed to the eruption of social and environmental conflicts in different regions of the country, engaging in human rights violations and deadly attacks against human and environmental defenders*.

Therefore, this event explored the question of the role of the business sector in the consolidation of socio-environmental peace in Colombia.

*According to the Global Witness 2022 annual report, A Decade of Defiance, 322 land and environmental defenders have been killed in Colombia over the last ten years.
